Rainy Gainey – Kildare Group August 22nd

Another rough week for the Kildare group. Lots of rain has greened up the courses and filled the arroyos with running water. Wednesday night brought more than an inch of rain to the Gainey Ranch area. Scott Thompson skipped the Wednesday round. Word on the street is he’s suffering from a shoulder injury. I’m more inclined to believe he’s building an ark.

Wednesday, the group returned to Horror Hollow, a.k.a. Grayhawk Golf Course, this time to take on the Talon course. Final score – Talon 1 – Gainey golfers 0. Even though we played the short tees (golf’s answer to the “short bus”), the course demanded an average of nearly 88 strokes per golfer. Admittedly, the wind was blowing hard and as usual, it was directly into the face of golfers on most holes. On those holes where it would have been at our backs, the wind briefly stopped.

Wednesday, August 22nd

Low Gross

  1. Joel Temple – 75
  2. Howard Jones – 79
  3. Jim Stamatis – 83

Low Net

  1. Joel Temple – 66
  2. Howard Jones – 70
  3. Jim Stamatis – 72

Raoul Encinas, Joel Temple and Sandy Wiener each escaped with two skins. Skyler Irvine garnered one. The gross skins game was cancelled; the FBI is still investigating last Wednesday’s skins game and we didn’t want to cloud the investigation. If there had been one, the skins would have been passed out generously with Collins, Encinas, Kopp, Wiener and Wentrup each grabbing one. Joel Temple would have gone home with two. Return on investment would have been low with such diluted profits.

Last Friday’s game was rather uneventful and boring. I say this because I (again) won nothing. Skins were plentiful.

Friday, August 17th

Low Gross

  1. Mike Miller and Jason Sample – 76
  2. Harold Hoeg

Low Net

  1. Marty Howe – 66
  2. Raoul Encinas and Jason Sample – 67

The average score was 83.5 with an average of one birdie per 18 holes. Hole #3 on the Lakes course played the toughest with almost half the field getting double-bogey or worse. No explanation found.

  1. GREAT REPORT. INMAN, GRAHAM, ROSIN, & WOODS PLAYED 18 HOLES AT GAINEY. I DIDN’T RECORD THEIR SCORES BUT THEY WERE ALL POSTED. IF YOU WANT THEM FOR YOUR PROGRAM, I CAN GET THEM FOR YOU. IT WAS A GREAT DAY, OVERCAST AND BREEZY. ARROYO #1 DID HAVE WATER IN THE DITCH AND THE COURSE WAS SOFT. I PITCHED AND PUTTED A LITTLE. GETTING ITCHY ! WILL SEE YOU TOMORROW.
